【摘要】:ThisTechnicalReportgivesmechanismsforformallyspecifyingthesyntaxofXML-basedlanguages.Forexample,thesyntaxofXHTML1.0canbespecifiedinRELAX.ComparedwithDTDs,RELAXprovidesthefollowingadvantages:-SpecificationinRELAXusesXMLinstance(i.e.,document)syntax,-RELAXprovidesrichdatatypes,and-RELAXisnamespace-aware.TheRELAXspecificationconsistsoftwoparts,RELAXCoreandRELAXNamespace.ThispartoftheTechnicalReportgivesRELAXCore,whichmaybeusedtodescribemarkuplanguagescontainingasingleXMLnamespace.Part2ofthisTechnicalReportgivesRELAXNamespace,whichmaybeusedtodescribemarkuplanguagescontainingmorethanasingleXMLnamespace,consistingofmorethanoneRELAXCoredocument.Givenasequenceofelements,asoftwaremodulecalledtheRELAXCoreprocessorcomparesitagainstaspecificationinRELAXCoreandreportstheresult.TheRELAXCoreprocessorcanbedirectlyinvokedbytheuser,andcanalsobeinvokedbyanothersoftwaremodulecalledtheRELAXNamespaceprocessor.RELAXmaybeusedinconjunctionwithDTDs.Inparticular,notationsandentitiesdeclaredbyDTDscanbeconstrainedbyRELAX.ThispartoftheTechnicalReportalsogivesasubsetofRELAXCore,whichisrestrictedtoDTDfeaturesplusdatatypes.Thissubsetisveryeasytoimplement,andwiththeexceptionofdatatypeinformation,conversionbetweenthissubsetandXMLDTDsresultsinnoinformationloss.NOTE1SinceXMLisasubsetofWebSGML(TC2ofISO8879),RELAXisapplicabletoSGML.NOTE2AsuccessorofRELAXCoreisbeingdevelopedattheRELAXNGTCofOASIS.
