【摘要】:Thistestmethodcoverstheevaluationoftheshearstabilityofanoilcontainingpolymerintermsofthepermanentlossinviscositythatresultsfromirradiatingasampleoftheoilinasonicoscillator.Thistestmethodcanbeusefulinpredictingthecontinuityofthispropertyinanoilwherenochangeismadeinthebasestockorthepolymer.Itisnotintendedthatthistestmethodservetopredicttheperformanceofpolymer-containingoilsinservice.Evidencehasbeenpresentedthatcorrelationbetweenthesheardegradationresultsobtainedbymeansofsonicoscillationandthoseobtainedinmechanicaldevicescanbepoor.Thisisespeciallytrueinthecaseofautomotiveengines.Furtherevidenceindicatesthatthesonictechniquemayratedifferentfamiliesofpolymersinadifferentorderthanmechanicaldevices.Becauseoftheselimitations,thecommitteeunderwhosejurisdictionthistestmethodfallshasdevelopedanalternativesheartestmethodusingadieselinjectornozzle,TestMethodD3945.Whilethattestmethodhasfoundsomeutilityintheevaluationofcrankcaseoils,thestressimpartedtothesamplehasbeenfoundtobeinsufficienttoshearpolymersoftheshear-resistanttypefoundinaircrafthydraulicfluids.Thistestmethodisusedforpolymericadditivespecifications,especiallyinthehydraulicfluidmarket.ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareprovidedforinformationalpurposesonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
